The District encompasses either all or part of eight political units in the cities of Northville and Novi, the Townships of Northville, Salem and South Lyon included in Counties of Wayne, Oakland and Washtenaw.
The Northville School District is located in an area with a physiographic personality which is a result of the glacier period. To the east is low flat land which was once covered by the western shore of Lake Erie. To the west are irregular land forms which are now beautiful rolling hills. There are several gravel moraines caused by the retreating glaciers and lakes. This geography has made the area attractive to land developers, resulting in considerable residential growth -- causing the elementary student population to increase.
The District continues to revise, update, and maintain sound curriculum as well as provide support and encouragement for gifted and talented, science/math/health, instructional technology, language arts, applied academics and vocational and career education programs. The Board of Education is committed to a continuous and comprehensive staff development program.
The Northville Public Schools provide equal opportunity for all students to develop their fullest potential. The District's commitment to effective student program development, implementation, and evaluation is an ongoing means by which the students acquire insight, skills, interest and values that are necessary to function as responsible and effective citizens. Some specialized programs offered to this end are:
