We, the staff of Northville High School, in
partnership with the students, parents and
community, are committed to mutual
responsibility for learning through effective
teaching. Our mission is to challenge all
students to reach their potential and to develop
responsible citizens in a caring and supportive
environment.
Northville High School offers a comprehensive
college-prep curriculum for students in grades
9-12. Students can choose from approximately 190
educational options including 27 Advanced
Placement and Honors courses. Students also can
choose Vocational Education and Career Education
Programs at the Oakland Technical Center.
Since 1997, Northville High School has operated
on a rotating eight-block schedule of four
blocks per day. The block schedule operates on a
two-week cycle with each 87-minute class period
meeting every other day. Students have seven
blocks with one block designated as seminar. The
seminar period offers students the opportunity
to pursue, enrich and remediate their course
work.
Extra-curricular options range from Forensics,
Guitar Club and Equestrian Team to Quiz Bowl,
Rotary Interact and National Honor Society.
This past year, Northville High School’s music
program distinguished itself with the state’s
top honor going to its jazz band and all
state-performances for two bands. The Northville
High School choir Program ranks among the best
in the state.
Two NHS students also received National Teachers
of English awards.

Parents play an integral role at Northville High
School. In addition to volunteer support, there
are several parent organizations that assist in
enhancing programs and activities. The school’s
PTSA meets monthly and supports various school
projects. The high school also boasts two
booster organizations, the Athletic Booster Club
and Music Booster Club.
Last fall 79 percent of parents attended
parent-teacher conferences; 65 percent of
parents attended in the spring.
Community service is a critical component of the
student experience at Northville High School.
Students participated in a variety of community
service activities throughout the year including
visits to the Wayne County Family Shelter,
hosting a Halloween party for children of NHS
staff, visiting Allen Terrace, collecting for
Thanksgiving baskets, adopting two families in
need at Christmas, sponsoring a blood drive and
participating in Paint the Town.
Northville High School’s 2006-2007 enrollment is
2,113. Staff includes Principal Robert Watson,
Assistant Principals Karin Pearson and Monty
Shambleau, Athletic Director Bryan Masi, 115
instructional staff and 18 support staff
including a Police Liaison Officer, five
counselors, a media specialist, two learning
consultants, five special education teachers,
English as a second language teacher and a
Student Assistant Program Coordinator. The high
school’s graduation rate is 99.2.
